I agree with the idea that driving from a darker environment into a
bright
one is not desirable. However, typically in parking structures daytime
lighting is the more crucial concern. The idea of driving into a dark
environment from daylight can present more of a safety issue. It is
better
to have a little more light inside the parking structure to prevent
this.
The entrance is usually the critical area of concern. IES recommends a
Maintained Minimum of 50fc during daytime and 1fc at night. With the
current
design, the entrance would have a maintained minimum of about 1.2fc.
In
smaller structures like this one, where there is such a small quantity
Of
fixtures, it is somewhat impractical to have different levels at the
entry
versus the remaining areas. Also, we are already using a 100W lamp
which is
the lowest wattage metal halide lamp that is offered in the fixture.
Please let me know if this helps clarify our lamp choices photometric
plan.

Anne,
We have discussed light levels with David and Paula. Dave felt we might not
have enough light, which as I described the entire lighting design they were
pleased.
I spoke last with them on Friday, they are excited to see the project
started and were asking If any additional information was needed for the
city process. If necessary I am sure that David would provide a letter.
Thank you for the quick response,

We did have a discussion about this and my recollection is that the
concern I shared with you is light levels that the Edwards would
experience. It seems like the structure is open enough to the outside
that daytime levels will be OK with less lighting. If the lowest
wattage for the fixture is already being used, then I guess that is as
good as you'll be able to do, unless you change fixtures. If I were
you, I think I would run the photometrics by the Edwards now rather
than later.

Anne,
I just received your message. I thought we had a brief discussion
regarding the lighting issue earlier. The plan submitted was not in
error
or an attempt to not address your comments, it is a concern of driver
safety.
