Article published May 8, 2006 NIMBY opposition Ed Sauer Re: Gabe Lowe's April 27 Soapbox He sure took a lot of words to show his streak of bigotry, prejudice and superiority. He indicated the development would infringe on other homes. In all probability, there will be, if not already a fence (a tall privacy type to keep the riff raff out) built. The parcel is too small for a large-scale development; however, it is too large to ignore. Concerning proximity to medical and other services, I do not believe they were misrepresented. If there were to be any buildings planned that would impede future traffic engineering, I am certain it will be addressed sooner rather than later. By reading his words written against the Planning and Zoning Board, City Council and city staff, it would appear Lowe suffers from acute Not In My Backyard syndrome. Habitat for Humanity is an excellent organization that would not knowingly do harm to a community. I believe they are trying to do a greater good for a few more families. I am a native Coloradoan who has observed the social and political landscape change, and I am not sure I like what I see. As a society, we owe it to each other for the greater good for many, not just a few perceived privileged. By the way, between words, I took a small drive to see the parcel in question. If it is the southeast corner, there already exists a fence. If it is the northeast corner, I can not believe anything could be worse than what is already there.
