The sooner fences are deterred from the site, the more time they have to select a more appropriate area If.foxes begin to frequent the site, -various repellents can be used to deter the -foxes from establishing a den; including ammonia, moth balls; and hot pepper spray. Noise makers and lighting may also be used to discourage them, if you have any further questions or concerns, please contact me at 970-568-9736.. Doug: For W fe- ForPeopk The fox den at JFK Plaza, behind Palmer Flowers and Decorating Gallery has been active for several years Foxes use their dens only for rearing their young and occasionally as places of escape or refuge from severe weather. In Fort Collins, foxes. generally begin to investigate potential den sites as early as January. The breeding season lasts from December to March with a peak in late January. Young can be born anytime from March to May, depending on the time of mating. They are weaned by the time they are 2-3 months old and are fully grown at 6 months. By . mid -September to October, the young disperse. C.S.R. 33-6-128 states that, unless permitted by the division, it is unlawful for any person to willfully damage or destroy. any wildlife den or to.harass any wildlife. The division considers it acceptable and permitted to destroy this fox den or discourage the foxes from inhabiting this den in the future, under the following guidelines: I. Earth moving and construction may take place in the winter months, and may help to discourage the foxes from using the site in the following year. 2. Young may be born as early as March, and after the young are born, it is unacceptable to distarb the den. 3. Once the young leave in mid -September to October, it is once again acceptable to disturb the den.
