Dear Resident:
I would like to let you know of a change that will be occurring in your
neighborhood in the next couple of weeks, and answer any concerns you might have.
As part of the Orchards at Clarendon Hills development, the Poudre Fire Authority
required that a stretch of pavement between Abbey Road and Paradise Lane be
included to allow access for emergency vehicles. As I understand it, the
residents in the neighborhood were concerned that this access would allow cars
and motorcycles to use this route as a shortcut, and therefore, heavy chains were
placed across both ends of the pavement. The chains could be cut by the Poudre
Fire Authority if they needed access to the area, while at the same time keeping
cars and motorcycles from using the path.
Unfortunately, a child on his bike was hurt recently while trying to ride under
the chain. As you may know, the chain can be difficult to see, especially early
in the morning, at sunset, and at night. Although the access route was not
intended to be used by children„ it is being used as such, and we feel a
responsibility to ensure that it remains as safe as possible without sacrificing
the intent of the route.
To help ensure the safety of bicyclists and pedestrians, we are going to replace
the chains with wooden gates, similar to those used on the City's trail system.
These are easier to see. Also; a three foot opening will be left on one side to
allow bicyclists and pedestrians to pass through. The design of the gates will
continue to allow the Poudre Fire Authority acce-ss, and prevent cars and
motorcycles from using the path. We feel these changes are necessary.
If you have any questions or would like additional information, please give me
a call at 221-6754.
Sincerely,
Jon Ruiz -
