Thanks for sharing Shelby.
As you may know, the state has a "School of Choice" article that basically says a child
may attend any school they want with just a couple of exceptions (receiving school has
no space or does not have a special program that child may need). Our district honors
the law, but also no longer "grandfathers" students attending outside their area of
residency. Usually, however, the principals attempt to keep students for the duration
of their time at a specific level -- meaning once in an elementary school they try to
keep them until they finish 5th grade.
The elementary on Avondale Road will be built as a 2+ round school with the capability
of easily expanding (through the use of cottages) to a full 3-round school. At this
time, we do not anticipate the school being in a position of ever needing to turn
students away. Our real worry is filling the school.
