Mr. Gordon Thibedeau
Exccutivc Director
United Way of Larimer County
Dear Mr. Thibedeau,
I read with interest the articles in the Coloradoan on August 28`h and 291h, 2006, regarding the
new homeless center proposed for the corner of Conifer Road and Blue Spruce Drive.
Unfortunately, this year I somehow did not receive the announcement of this meeting in the mail,
and as I work until 9 PM, I didn't see the article in the paper on the 28`h until long after the
meeting was over. I would have liked to have been there to bring up some important issues
regarding this facility, as I did in writing in May of 2004.
My business, the Canine Learning Center, is located at 1300 Blue Spruce Drive, and in January of
2007 we will have been here for fifteen years. I specifically chose and have stayed in this location
because it is a safe environment for my clients and for my instructors, the majority of which are
women.
Since mine is the only business on Blue Spruce Drive that is open after 6 PM, 1 have serious
concerns about where the clients of the homeless center will go after their center closes. I believe
my business will no longer be in a safe environment after dark, unless there are active and strict
security measures implemented at this proposed facility. I acknowledge that the vast majority of
the homeless are peaceable individuals, but it only takes one person to make headlines and
change that perception forever.
I would appreciate knowing what plans are being made to ensure community safety when your
proposed center closes for the night.
Sincerely, ,
Julie Yamane
