Project Objective:
The Larimer Center for Mental Health is the primary provider of compassionate,
affordable, mental health care in Larimer County. The project objective is to convert an existing
Church into offices and clubhouse for Larimer Center for Mental Health. The building is existing
and fully sprinkled. There will be no exterior remodel work to change the appearance of the
existing building and no new impervious surfaces. The new offices and meeting spaces will be
administrative use for approximately 24 employees.
Spirit Crossing clubhouse has operated at 251 Jefferson St., Fort Collins since 1998. It is
fashioned after the "clubhouse model" of the International Center for Clubhouse Development.
The clubhouse serves about 20 adult members with severe or persistent mental illness. In the
new facility the clubhouse could grow to serve as many as 40 members. The clubhouse offers
employment training services, educational services, and help with socialization and wellness
skills. The facility operates Monday through Friday, from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, and lunch is
served every day. Members do not pay any fees to join the clubhouse. Shuttle service is offered
daily to members in need of transportation.
Members participate with staff in managing all aspects of the clubhouse. Training activities
include clerical work, filing, collating, computer work, desktop publishing, mailings and internet
research. The lunch program offers work in meal planning, serving, waiter/waitress, busing,
dishes and sanitation, sales and cashiering. Regular meetings and various committees involve
members in business decisions and other aspects of the clubhouse. The members operate a
micro -bank within the facility. Employment services include career counseling, job seeking
skills, job placement, job coaching, and on-the-job training. Education services provide referrals
and resources for members interested in further educational training. Social and wellness
activities include consumer advocacy, peer counseling, social events, fundraising activities,
physical exercise, and nutrition and wellness education. The staff works side -by -side with
members and monitors mental health stability, personal care, and independent living. There
are five staff employees.
