Subject: 318 Myrtle proposed townhouses
Steve,
Karen and I met with the owners of 318 Myrtle and viewed the plans they submitted.
Our main concern is that the new construction be as low as possible so that it is visually subordinate to
and compatible with the historic eligible home at 318 Myrtle and the eligible buildings at 522-524 Meldrum
and 516 Meldrum. The elevations they presented showed a design that does appear to be compatible.
We asked that the wall of the new townhouse structure facing the back of 522-524 Meldrum have more
visual variety and not be just a 2 story blank wall with one lower window. We suggested adding another
larger horizontal siding board and the owners stated that they could add an attic window.
Another concern is a privacy fence that the City has asked the owners to build between the lot with the
townhouses and properties on Meldrum. Historically there would have been a visual connection between
the properties, so we would prefer that an existing wrought iron fence remain and that additional fencing or
screening could be added that would not be as visually obtrusive as a privacy fence.
Let me know if you have any questions or need more information.
Pam
