Because I cannot be present at the meeting on February 21, I would like to write my concerns regarding this matter. I live alone (my husband has been in a nursing facility for 2-1/2 years (Nursing & Rehab. Center of the Rockies, 1020 Patton St., Ft. Collins). I cannot walk far, use a cane and do not drive. Also I do not see well at present due to cataract surgery which should take place in late summer when my daughter and son-in-law hope to visit from their home in Wisconsin. My concerns are various. A neighbor has taken me to see the outside of the present facility for these students at 740 East Stuart Street. This appears to be a much larger house than the proposed Newsom St. home. There is also more space between houses in that area than between our homes on Newsom St., which are set closer together. Approximately 20 students, 4 full-time teachers and paraprofessionals to be taught in that small house on Newsom St.? And from what I have been told, it does not have a basement. There are many elderly people living in the vicinity of the proposed development, not only on Newsom St., but also on Buckeye and Lake. I am sure that should they want to sell their homes for whatever reason, they would find it harder to find buyers with families if this development becomes a fact. Another concern also is disturbing, when one starts to think ahead. Should this one house development on Newsom St. become a fact, what if many more than 20 students will require this training and another home becomes available? Will the Planning Dept. hold another "neighborhood information meeting" ? Obviously these students need and should obtain vocational training, but Newsom Street is a poor choice. If a printed record will be made of the comments and concerns of those attending this meeting, I would appreciate receiving a copy. Sincerely, Mary Stretton
