I live in the Coventry subdivision and have just become aware of some proposed changes at the South Transit Center (Mason Road). As past President of the HOA Board, I have been aware of the plans to develop a transit center next to Spradly Barr Ford, but those plans included using natural gas powered "quiet' busses. Now I understand that plans may include diesel powered (nosier) busses. My main concern is noise! Coventry is situated on a "hill' (versus Mason Road) and we get echoes from all kinds of Fort Collins outdoor events. We can hear the music when there is a festival or band concert going on in OLD TOWN and this past weekend we could hear a loudspeaker that we think was associated with a bike event in Fort Collins. As these events are usually just a few times a year we tolerate them. We understand that the new Transit Center will have loudspeakers going until midnight almost every day. That is unacceptable, unless the city can somehow figure out how to keep the sound from reaching our subdivision!! Planting a few trees will NOT do the trick. As we are at a higher elevation, the sound will carry and echo against houses, etc in Coventry and Clarendon Hills (where Wade Troxell lives). He lives behind me. If these sounds, and their echoes, are present throughout the day, they will cause the many dogs in the neighborhood to bark continuously, which will only add to the problem. We would hope that the City find a way to mitigate the decibel level of any outdoor loudspeakers so that the problems identified above are not created. Testing of any speaker system should include the echoing effect in our community. We do not want to hear "announcements" or echoes of announcements from this new Transit Center. Any and all loudspeaker usage should end by 10:00 PM at the latest. Front Range Community College has parking lots adjacent to our subdivision and before they put in lights a few years ago they agreed to turn them off by 10:00 PM as a consideration to our homeowners.
