I was a tad late and missed some of the conversation but there are two issues coming out of the
meeting that I am following up on, as follows:
1. Procedure to get approval to start removal of trees - Tim mentioned a Minor Ammendment but it
isn't logical to get a MA when we don't have an approved Final Plan. Tim suggested that we talk to
Steve Dush and/or Peter Barnes to see what could be done if anything to approve the tree removals.
We can make revisions to the plan for the next submittal and get these changes approved with that
but it might delay the tree removal.
2. Regarding the big tree in the middle of the site that is now coming out - Curt has talked to
Jordan's about transplanting an 18" diameter Spruce (that's a big tree) in that location after the
project is completed. John Beggs and I believe that is an unfortunate choice for that particular spot.
The small area is a tight space for a large dense tree like that and considering the windows and two
elevated decks of the new building that look out that direction... It will fill that space in a short time
and severely limit views out of those windows and from the decks. We do need to decide this so that
the Final Plan indicates the correct species of tree. It also changes the ground cover and low level
planting that can work below the tree.
Feel free to call me on this.
Thanks,
Don

Stu,
Both Peter and I agree a MA is not necessary for this tree situation. The project is not recorded yet so
it does not make sense. I think that we just need either Tim Buchanan or your landscape architect to
write a short letter describing why the tree is going to be removed to put in the file. And note it on
the Existing Tree Plan.
Let me know if you have any other questions.

I think doing a Minor Amendment when we haven't even finished our plan review is overkill, don't
you? Please see below.
As you will find out, there are many very good reasons to remove the tree in question as everyone
believes that it doesn't have much longer to live and it will likely not make it through construction.
We are disappointed about that, but it looks to be a fact.
What do you think about the MA? I will call Steve or Peter if you think it will help you. Please advise.
Thanks.
BTW, I agree with Don Bundy that a spruce is not the best tree for replacement, and I will talk to Curt
about that.

To all concerned,
Emma McArdle (project Planner for City) informed me that it is OK to remove and/or transplant trees without a
permit as long as they are not in the right-of-way. None of the trees scheduled for removal are in the right of way
so that is not an issue. This includes the big tree on the west side of the building. We are OK to start removing the
trees.
