If you look at it the street, there is no other walk on that side of the walk and will be a walk to nowhere. There is no chance that more walk get installed on that side of the street in the future since it is built out. Currently there is a crossing that allows ADA access to the other side of the street where the walk is continued along Welch or back to Stoney Hill. Installing missing sidewalk during redevelopment is consistent with city policy and code for all development projects and is also identified in the IGA between the city and PSD. I understand that there are missing sidewalks in the area around the property now but with future redevelopment projects and pedestrian orientated projects that may not be the case in the future. It is especially important to the city to have pedestrian connectivity around schools and neighborhoods adjacent to schools as we see an increase in pedestrian use in these areas. I would like to discuss this requirement with you and review the attached image. Perhaps you will agree that installing a small fragment of sidewalk in this area will create a "dead end" that could possibly be considered a safety hazard. The neighborhood is well served by sidewalks that appear to be intentionally designed and installed. Michael Chalona of our office offers his assessment below.
