Re: East Ridge, Final Plans - Removal of Existing Trees
Dear Matt,
There are 12 existing Cottonwood trees on the east side of North Timberline
Road that have been evaluated by Tim Buchanan, the City Forester, and Dana
Leavitt, the City's Environmental Planner. These trees would be located on the
south side of the proposed collector street, named Sykes Drive, that will enter
the East Ridge development approximately half way between East Vine Drive
(to the north) and International Boulevard (to the south). It has been
determined that 9 of the 12 trees are of an age and condition that pose
potential safety concerns as development occurs around them. Therefore, City
staff has taken the position that these 9 trees, now marked with red paint in
the field, may be cut down at any time prior to commencing construction on
the property. No mitigation is being required for the elimination of these 9
trees. The other 3 trees must be incorporated in the East Ridge final
development plan and protected, per Section 3.2.1(F) of the City's Land Use
Code, as construction occurs, unless further aerial inspection indicates that
there are qualities in the upper portions of these 3 trees that would render
them a hazard. Such inspection would need to be conducted by a certified
arborist with a report submitted to the City for review.
