After providing an aerial evaluation and inspecting the basal area of all three trees, there are enough critical defects in all three trees that I would advise the removal all three trees. The east most cottonwood or tree # 1, has decay in one of the main leaders at the very top of the tree (picture # 12). If this leader was to be removed there would eliminate a majority of the tree. This tree also severe basal decay. The center cottonwood or tree # 2, has an extensive pocket of decay on one of the main leaders (picture # 10) that to eliminate this hazard would remove 2/3rds of the entire canopy of the tree. The west most cottonwood or tree # 3, has a column of decay on the north side (opposite of its lean) making its structural integrity impaired. Please let me know if I can furnish additional information. Also, attached is the staff letter sent to Matt Blakely of Jim Sell Design on October 2, 2007 regarding the possible removal, initially, of 9 trees. These 9 trees have been removed based on City staffs position. My question is, would an e-mail response to Matt Blakely and David Jordan regarding David's e-mail assessment of the trees be sufficient? Thanks, Steve
