HomeMy WebLinkAboutRIDGEVIEW CLASSICAL SCHOOL PHASE IV ADDITION - SPAR - 16-01A - REPORTS - CORRESPONDENCE-HEARING (8)that funding should be spent on upkeep of the present property and building before expanding the school. 4. FENCE. The Stonehenge neighborhood has been told by the school that a fence will be placed between the school property and Stonehenge property. This will discourage trespassing, trash, and the use of Stonehenge streets before and after school for pick-up/drop-off. It will also prevent the occasional vehicle that drives over the parking lot curb and drives on the Stonehenge greenbelt to get onto Solstice Lane. Again, we believe funds should be used for items already discussed which would improve school/neighborhood relations, rather than for expanding the building and compounding existing problems. 5. SECURITY LIGHTS. The security lights which come on at dark are positioned to shine directly into the Stonehenge neighborhood. The school would benefit more from the lights if they were angled down toward the school parking lot. We hope funds will be used to correct this issue before being spent on a building expansion. 6. MODULARS. Modular buildings are still present on the property. Kim Miller stated, in the meeting two years ago, that when the original expansion was completed last year all modular buildings would be taken off the property by Christmas 2002. We ask that she honor this statement. We encourage Ridgeview Classical Schools to find a larger and more appropriate site at this time, rather than expanding the current site and moving to a larger site later, as noted in The Coloradoan article. The neighbors of Ridgeview Classical Schools are proud of its academic standing and do not object to the.presence of the school in the neighborhood, as long as reasonable controls are instituted to ensure that the school is a good neighbor. 1. TRAFFIC. The building already dominates the property. Expanding the building would further restrict area for parking and queue lines for drop-off/pick-up of students, which overflow onto Lemay and Stuart streets for blocks and obstruct through traffic, as well as causing serious safety issues. Increasing the number of students (and therefore cars present during drop-off/pick-up) and at the same time reducing the blacktop area by expanding the building footprint will greatly impact the existing problems. The Stonehenge neighborhood is also inundated with cars during drop-off/pick-up times, even though there is no access to the school from Stonehenge. Children are dropped off and walk through Stonehenge greenspace to get to school. 2. PLAYGROUND. Kim Miller, President of the school's Board of Directors, told Stonehenge neighborhood residents in a meeting two years ago that the playground would be on the northwest corner of the property. However, she placed the playground along the full north portion of the property. The playground now extends to within a few yards of our homes. Requests have been made to the school to restrict the amount of screaming occurring all day long during recess periods. No noticeable action has been taken. 3. PROPERTY UPKEEP. Last spring, the property was allowed to overgrow with weeds more than 5' tall in the grass area on the NW corner of the property, in the catchment area on the NE corner of the property, and in the areas of the parking lot where dirt exists. The City of Fort Collins requested that the school maintain the property, and was finally required to go in and clean up the property and bill the school. We believe
