We as direct neighbors to the proposed project at 725 S. Taft Hill, have comments
regarding the modification of standards. We have lived next door at 715 S. Taft Hill
since 1956. Our neighbors, the Gilsdorfs had a smaller garage to which they added a boat
shelter. This structure was never built as an individual dwelling. It was a garage only.
This garage was built prior to the approved property set back for dwellings and was not in
the city limits at that time.
The previous owner at 725 S. Taft Hill attempted to build a dwelling using the existing
garage. At that time, the city halted work because they did not have a permit. They were
then unable to get a permit because they were too close to the property line. This has not
changed. They are still too close to the property line. As an immediate neighbor, this
would impact our property greatly. We do not want a dwelling this close to our property!
It does not fit the city's guidelines and it should not happen!
The current owner has approached us. Incidentally, he does not live there. We informed
them that nothing has changed and we still do not approve. This potentially would
diminish our property value. We feel this would break current codes and there is no need
to grant this variance.
