Do not destroy, displace
foxes
December 22, 2010
I am a Fort Collins resident whose home borders a
proposed student -housing complex by developer
Campus Crest. My family and I have had the
immense pleasure of viewing numerous fox families
and other wildlife for many years in the field behind
our house. My children look forward to fox babies
every spring. We follow their development through
the summer and into the autumn, enjoying the many
adventures the fox families go on in our
neighborhood.
I have recently noticed markers next to 14 fox dens
located within Campus Crest's proposed
development area in the field. I can only assume
these markers are to direct efforts for destruction or
displacement of the foxes in this area. I
acknowledge that destruction and displacement of
wildlife are frequently consequences of development
- construction of my own home likely had the same
impacts. I am writing this letter, however, to urge
Campus Crest to delay destruction and/or
displacement of these fox families until a
development has been approved.
Campus Crest, I do not know why the fox dens are
marked today. Your first development proposal was
denied and your second development proposal has
not yet been reviewed by city staff or the Planning
and Zoning Board. City Code states and city staff has
ruled that fox den elimination may not be
undertaken until a development is approved. Our
city has rules. Developers should have to follow
them. Please do not destroy or displace the foxes.
