Phone conversations between District Wildlife Manager (DWM) Shane Craig and Lindsay Ex, Environmental Planner with the City of Fort Collins about this project have focused on the concerns expressed about the numerous red fox dens on this site and potential impacts to denning. Foxes commonly have alternate den sites, so it is unlikely that every den represents an individual pair. It is also common for foxes to move their pups to an alternate den if a disturbance occurs during the denning period. With that in mind, we make the following recommendations. If construction, including initial excavation, is to occur between January and April, a field survey is recommended to identify the active dens. If possible, sequence activities to shift construction away from those areas while the dens are active. If construction, including initial excavation, is to occur between April and January, and a field survey indicates that there is no activity in a den, then the den can be backfilled to prevent later use during the construction period. If you have any further questions or concerns please contact DWM Shane Craig at (970) 420-3807. Thank you for your time and consideration. Sincerel , Mark Le ie Area Wildlife Manager cc: S.
