HomeMy WebLinkAboutCHRIST CENTER COMMUNITY CHURCH - REZONING - 29-09 - CORRESPONDENCE - CORRESPONDENCE-NEIGHBORHOOD MEETING (6)Mr. Ted Shepard, AICP 8/12/09 Chief Planner, PD&S Services, Current Planning 281 N. College Ave, Ft Collins, CO 80522 The City Government of Fort Collins has had an extremely poor reputation among citizens for the conduct of public meetings. It is deserved. We have attended several public meetings including those previously held at the location announced in your memo: August 24 rezoning meeting at Christ Center Community Church, 2700 South Lemay. This is a simple request: Please send someone to conduct the meeting who: - Is knowledgeable of and willing to discuss all aspects of the project, PRO AND CON. Previous meetings basically consisted of an announcement of what the City intends to do. - Is willing to listen, and who will not stifle responsible input from attendees. - does NOT see himself as a representative of the "Developer" with the intent of ramming the (already City approved) proposal down the throats of community citizens. - Assures that comprehensive minutes of the meeting are taken and made available (on-line) to Fort Collins citizens. As usual, your memo raises concerns even before a public meeting is held: The meeting is to be held in less than two weeks? During the summer vacation season? Is there a reason to rush it through? Also, the memo doesn't really tell us anything except that there will be a public meeting to rezone. It is basically filled with bureaucratic language that makes it appear the city already has something to hide. The memo says you have a development proposal. Why didn't you, at least, briefly describe the proposal in your memo? That, and more time before the meeting, would have provided the citizens an opportunity to discuss it among themselves and become informed rather than expecting to walk into a cold meeting expecting subterfuge. I come by my concern honestly and apologize if my somewhat caustic remarks are out of fine. My intention is to ask for a civil, informative, public meeting that provides input to the City and does not waste our time. If this is merely a pro forma session to announce a City project, why bother with it at all? Just go do it. Jay Lasser 12 Ravenwood Cr FTC U
