7. LAND USE CODE CHANGES RELATED TO URBAN AGRICULTURE
This is a request to consider a proposal to modify the Land use Code to allow for
Urban Agriculture. Urban Agriculture is strongly supported in Plan Fort Collins
(Principle SW 3 and Policy SW 3.1). Numerous communities across the country,
including Seattle, Madison, Kansas City, and Detroit, have adapted their codes to
permit urban agriculture in their communities. This code change seeks to adapt our
existing Code to allow for urban agriculture, including, but not limited to, Community
Supported Agriculture, community gardening, and urban farming, to be more
thoroughly integrated into the permitted uses within several zoning districts. To ensure
consistency with the community's goals, neighborhood compatibility, and subarea
plans, a collaborative team of internal and external stakeholders will be engaged to
develop the Land Use Code change. Extensive public outreach, in coordination with
the City's public engagement/outreach team, will occur throughout this process. As
local food production is a community priority, this effort will engage our residents in a
discussion that will further the consistency between our Land Use Code and Plan Fort
Collins and increase the community's capacity to reach our local food production
goals.
APPLICANT: City of Fort Collins
