On Tuesday, May 31, from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m., in the North Classroom of the
Plymouth Congregational Church, 916 West Prospect Road, Fort Collins, the City
of Fort Collins Current Planning Department will hold a follow-up neighborhood
information meeting to provide an update on a project referred to as Fort Collins
Islamic Center at 925 West Lake Street.
As proposed, the new facility will include a Mosque (praying area), children
activity area, gymnasium and elementary school. The project will be constructed
in phases with Mosque being Phase One, the school being Phase Two and the
gymnasium being Phase Three. Phase One will be two stories and consist of
11,600 square feet. A total of 95 parking spaces are being provided on the site.
The site is 3.26 acres.
The purpose of the meeting is to review and discuss the traffic control plan for
the project. At the first neighborhood meeting, concerns were expressed about
the access between Summer Street and the project. The primary concern was
that there would be undesirable cut -through traffic using Summer Street, the
Mosque parking lot and Lake Street as a street system.
In response, the applicant will provide a vehicular connection to Summer Street,
which is primarily needed for an emergency second point of access, but, as
mitigation, the Mosque parking lot will include a traffic control device to prevent
cut -through traffic. As proposed, this device will be closed six days per week but
be open on Fridays. In addition, a walkway will be extended to Prospect Road.
Sincerely:
Ted Shepard
Chief Planner
