Subject: Mosque Project
Ted,
After the meeting last night I realized that one problem has been solved with the location of the traffic control gate;
i.e. limiting access to the north parking lot but another has been created by the addition of the 12 parking places
to the south with unlimited access from Summer St. and, if I understood the discussion correctly, from Prospect
St. as well since there appears to be no fence or other barrier to the south of the new spaces. I can guarantee
you that once students discover these spots they will be filled during the day and on weekend nights by students
partying at the houses directly behind my property on Prospect. This will be especially problematic as Muslim
services are held on Friday not to mention increasing traffic on Summer St itself. I therefore urge some sort of
traffic mitigation off of Summer to discourage unauthorized parties from accessing these parking spots. I got the
sense at the meeting last night that any issues that came up after the fact could be handled by the police. I see
no reason a creative, pro -active approach can't be taken to nip any potential problems in the bud and thereby
maintain harmonious relations in the community. If students realize there is no access to the parking spots they
won't try to use them. If they are open they will. If you think it more appropriate to take up this issue with the
mosque members' maybe you could put me in touch with their project coordinator and something could be
worked out internally. Please email me at dvdronn@comcast.net. After 31 years with the City I will no longer
have a City email address as this is my last day! Thanks for your consideration. I know that we all want to see
this project go forward with minimal negative impact on everyone. If we all work together I'm sure it can.
Sincerely,
David R. Onn
