Subject: LDS Temple proposal at Timberline and Trilby
Hi Jason,
The City currently has a development application in for a new LDS Temple at the southeast corner of
Timberline and Trilby Road. As proposed, the project would have a 112 foot steeple with a gold angel
at the top. As proposed, the steeple and angel would be uplit per the LDS religious belief and the light
fixture cut sheet is attached (E.5).
We would like to have the airport review this application and make comments regarding steeple
height and uplighting as it relates to potential airport operational impact.
In terms of timeline, applicant is looking to go to a Planning and Zoning Board hearing in February to
seek approval for this project. As the project manager for the City, please contact me directly at the
number below (or via e-mail) if you have any questions or need further clarification.
Sincerely,

Hi Courtney,
Thank you very much for including the airport in your development review. It is very important that we
maintain contact as it relates to near airport development. From what information that you have sent
me, it looks as though this proposal should not have an effect on the operations at the airport. This
corridor is certainly an area where an increased amount of aircraft activity is, however due to their
existing location just across the street from the proposed development there should be relatively no
additional impact from noise that they don't already encounter.
The height and lighting is not an issue for the airport either as it relates to hazard zoning or our
extended protection imaginary surfaces. By my estimation the steeple location will be approximately
2.33 miles from the end of the airport's primary runway, and the protective imaginary airspace
surfaces extend at a 50:1 ratio from that point at an elevation of 4,973'. What I see on the plans is
the steeple maximum height is 5,035.5' based on a finished floor height of 4,923.5' and the 112'
steeple height. The structure at that distance would have to be greater than 5,219' in elevation to
have an impact on airport operations. These surfaces protect the instrument approach path into the
airport, and is very important to protect.
Thanks,
Jason R. Licon
