Subject: RE: Underground tank relocation information
Ken,
Thanks for sending this. Is there an attachment from Tasha?
My question regarding the UST is to determine whether or not PFA needs to be involved with removal of
the current tank and installation of the new tank. Will the State Dept. of Health be involved with this UST
project? Also, can you provide the size and construction of the current/proposed tank?
Thanks,
Carie Dann

Subject: Underground tank relocation information
There was a question concerning the UST that is to be relocated on this project. I am attaching the
response from Tasha Greene with Tolmar that should answer any concerns regarding this tank. If an
extra note is required on our plans for this tank, could you please advise as to what extent of detail the
note should say. Thanks.
"This tank and all discharges from it are regulated under TOLMAR's City of Fort Collins Industrial
Wastewater Discharge Permit. The primary purpose of this tank is to capture any significant, accidental
discharge of flammable liquid from one of our batching rooms in which we use large quantities of
flammable liquids. If there is a discharge of alcohol to the tank, a sample of the contents would be sent
out to test for flashpoint. If the results came back acceptable, the liquid would be discharge into the
sanitary sewer after approval from the City. If the results were not acceptable, the liquid would be sent out
as hazardous waste. pH is tested upon each discharge. If the pH is not within range, the contents of the
tank would be adjusted with either citric acid or.sodium hydroxide, retested after an appropriate
equilibration time, retested and released if within range.
Please see the attached procedure for further information. If you need further information regarding the
permit, tank, its contents or the associated discharge procedures, let me know."
Thanks,
Ken
