CITIES OF FORT COLLINS AND GREELEY, COLORADO
DESIGNATING THE LARIMER-WELD COUNCIL OF GOVERNMENTS
AS THE METROPOLITAN PLANNING ORGANIZATION FOR THE
FORT COLLINS AND GREELEY URBANIZED AREAS
A RESOLUTION requesting the Honorable Richard D Lamm, Governor of the
State of Colorado, to designate the Larimer-Weld Council of Governments as
the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) for the Fort Collins and
Greeley urbanized areas
WHEREAS, 23 USC 134 requires that an MPO be designated by the Governor
to carry out transportation planning in areas designated by the U S Census
as urbanized, and
WHEREAS, the designation of an MPO is required in order to continue
receiving Federal assistance for all types of transportation projects
within those designated urbanized areas, and
WHEREAS, using official 1980 Census data and published U S Census
criteria for the identification of urbanized areas, we have projected that
the U S Census will designate the City of Fort Collins , the City of
Greeley, and their surrounding areas as official urbanized areas, and
WHEREAS, the Cities of Fort Collins and Greeley desire to insure that
all Federally-funded transportation projects within their respective cities
and surrounding areas are in consonance with local plans, policies, and priorities,
and
WHEREAS, the Cities of Fort Collins and Greeley desire to work to-
gether with other local governments in State Planning Region 2 to develop
transportation plans and policies that will assist in insuring that the
projected growth of the area is managed in an environmentally sound and
cost-effective manner, and
WHEREAS, the Cities of Fort Collins and Greeley have determined, after
long and careful deliberation, that the best way to achieve the previously-
stated objectives is to join together with other local governments in a
Metropolitan Planning Organization under the Larimer-Weld Regional Council
of Governments, and
WHEREAS, the Governing Board of the Larimer-Weld Regional Council of
Governments has agreed that the Larimer-Weld Regional Council of Govern-
ments should serve as the Metropolitan Planning Organization for the area
and has forwarded to the Governor 's Office a Resolution requesting to be
designated by the Governor as the Metropolitan Planning Organization for
the area
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Cities of Fort Collins and
Greeley request that the Honorable Richard D Lamm, Governor, upon receipt
of the official U S Census designation of urbanized areas within Colorado,
designate the Larimer-Weld Regional Council of Governments as the Metro-
politan Planning Organization for the urbanized areas of the Cities of Fort
Collins, Greeley, and their surrounding areas
RESOLVED, PASSED AND ADOPTED this 7th day of July, 1981
