OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS
DIRECTING THE CITY MANAGER TO TAKE CERTAIN
ACTIONS RELATIVE TO TERMINATION OF SOCIAL
SECURITY COVERAGE FOR CITY EMPLOYEES
WHEREAS, in the oast, political subdivisions have had the right to opt
out of Social Security and replace it with their own programs, and
WHEREAS, pending legislation relative to Social Security will , if
passed, prevent political subdivisions from opting out of the Social
Security Program, and
WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Fort Collins wishes to preserve
the City' s ability to opt out of the Social Security Program, and
WHEREAS, in order to preserve such option, Council must 1) pass a
resolution expressing the City's intent, and 2) authorize the City Manager
to direct a letter to the State of Colorado requesting the State to termi-
nate its Social Security Agreement
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT
COLLINS that it is the intention of the municipal corporation, the City of
Fort Collins to opt out of the Social Security Program
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Manager be, and he hereby is,
authorized and directed to write a letter to the State of Colorado re-
questing that the State of Colorado take such action as may be necessary to
terminate Social Security coverage for the City of Fort Collins
Passed and adopted at a regular meeting of the City Council held this
15th day of March, A D 1983
