OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS
DIRECTING CITY STAFF TO PREPARE AND SUBMIT
A GRANT PROPOSAL TO THE URBAN MASS TRANSIT
ADMINISTRATION FOR THE REPLACEMENT OF TRANSFORT
BUSES, AND THE CONSTRUCTION OF A BUS MAINTENANCE AND
STORAGE FACILITY
WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Fort Collins is committed to
maintaining the viability of Transfort, and
WHEREAS, Council is concerned about minimizing the costs of transit to
the City, and
WHEREAS, the City Council recognizes that the present Mercedes buses
are aging to the degree that maintenance costs are escalating and replace-
ment will soon be necessary, and
WHEREAS, a combination of services between Transfort and Care-A-Van
would improve transit services and reduce costs for all Fort Collins'
citizens, and
WHEREAS, a combination of services with Care-A-Van would be aided by
Transfort having new buses, and the operating and maintenance costs overall
would be reduced, and
WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Fort Collins recognizes the value
of a bus maintenance and storage facility that could be operated in con-
junction with the anticipated South Side Center, and
WHEREAS, funds are now available under the Urban Mass Transit Act for
replacement of these buses and the construction of a bus storage and
maintenance facility
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT
COLLINS that the staff of the City of Fort Collins prepare a grant proposal
for submission to the Urban Mass Transit Administration that would provide
for the replacement of four of Transfort's Mercedes buses, and for the con-
struction of a bus maintenance and storage facility, and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the staff include in its grant proposals a
request for Section 4i (innovation in transportation) funds under the Urban
Mass Transit Act to cover some of the operating costs and thus facilitate a
combination of services arrangement between Care-A-Van and Transfort, and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution does neither state nor
imply an expansion of Transfort, that it is intended to help obtain grants
for soon-needed replacement, and is to help maintain the quality of the
present service, save the improvement of increased capacity to be derived
by having bigger buses
