OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS
AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO ENTER INTO AN
INTERGOVERNMENTAL AGREEMENT FOR THE PURPOSE OF
ESTABLISHING THE FORT COLLINS/POUDRE VALLEY FIRE AUTHORITY
WHEREAS, the City of Fort Collins and the Poudre Valley Fire Protec-
tion District have entered into previous agreements providing for mutual
aid and automatic aid for the purpose of providing fire and rescue services
within the respective territorial limits of the City and the District,
and
WHEREAS, these previous agreements have been mutually beneficial in
providing a higher degree of protection to persons and property within the
respective territorial limits of the City and the District, and
WHEREAS, the City and the District desire to enter into an interim
agreement for the purpose of establishing a basis for a total consolidation
of fire and rescue services pending consideration by the General Assembly
of the State of Colorado of remedial legislation concerning the pension
benefits of employees of the City and the District, and
WHEREAS, by entering into this intergovernmental agreement the parties
desire to provide for the formation of a quasi-independent governmental
entity for the purpose of providing fire and rescue services within the
respective territorial limits of the City and the District, and
WHEREAS, this intergovernmental agreement provides for the creation of
a governing board of the Authority, composed of representatives of the City
and the District, and
WHEREAS, the quasi-independent governmental entity which shall be
formed as a result of this consolidation of fire protection services shall
hereafter be known as the Fort Collins/Poudre Valley Fire Authority
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT
COLLINS that the City Manager be, and he hereby is, authorized to enter
into an intergovernmental agreement with the Poudre Valley Fire Protection
District for the purpose of consolidating fire protection services and
creating a quasi-independent governmental entity to be known as the
Fort Collins/Poudre Valley Fire Authority
Passed and adopted at a regular meeting of the Council of the City
of Fort Collins held this 18th day of Ko4ember 1980
