OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS
CONCERNING A MUTUAL NUCLEAR WEAPONS MORATORIUM
BETWEEN THE UNITED STATES AND THE SOVIET UNION
WHER S, citizens of the City of Fort Collins have previously sub-
mitted to he City a petition concerning a mutual nuclear weapons mora-
torium betwe n the United States and the Soviet Union, and
WHEREAS, a City Council on August 17, 1982, after considering the
petition found at the proposed ordinance was administrative in nature and
not subject to a initiative procedure and no further action was to be
taken, and
WHEREAS, there has been demonstrated a substantial interest by citi-
zens of the City of ort Collins to have the question of a mutual nuclear
weapons moratorium t be considered by the voters of the City of Fort
Collins at a regular a ection
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT
COLLINS, as follows
That the following r solution concerning a mutual nuclear weapons
moratorium between the Unite States and the Soviet Union be submitted to a
vote of the qualified electo s of the City of Fort Collins at the next
municipal election scheduled or March 8, 1983, and that the proposed
resolution shall appear on th ballot at said general election in the
following form
MUTUAL NUCLEAR WEAPONS MORATOR UM BETWEEN THE UNITED STATES AND
THE SOVIET UNION
A Resolution
That we call upon our federal congress onal delegation to support
a resolution requesting the President of the United States to
propose to the Soviet Union a mutual nu lear weapons moratorium
by which the United States and the Sovie Union would agree to
halt immediately the testing, production d deployment of all
nuclear warheads, missiles and delivery s tems This is an
essential , verifiable first step toward les ning the risk of
nuclear war and reducing the nuclear arsenals
That the Mayor of the City of Fort Collins, Col ado be, and he
hereby is, authorized and directed to expeditio ly inform our
federal congressional delegation of the adoption of this measure
