OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS
AUTHORIZING THE EXPENDITURE OF SUCH FUNDS AS ARE
REASONABLE AND PRUDENT TO ACCOMPLISH THE
DISSEMINATION OF INFORMATION REGARDING THE
PROPOSAL TO INCREASE SALES AND USE TAX ON ALL ITEMS
EXCEPT FOOD BY TWENTY-FIVE HUNDREDTHS PERCENT ( .25%)
TO FUND THE CONSTRUCTION OF A SWIMMING POOL/ICE RINK FACILITY
WHEREAS, on February 21, 1984, the Council of the City of Fort Collins
adopted Resolution 84-32 referring to the voters of the City of Fort
Collins a proposed ordinance to increase sales and use tax on all items
except food by twenty-five hundredths percent ( .25%) for the purpose of
constructing a swimming pool/ice rink facility; and
and WHEREAS, this issue is one in which the City has official concern;
WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Fort Collins wishes to authorize
the expenditure of funds as may be necessary to effectuate the dissem-
ination of information regarding such increase in sales and use taxes and
the construction of the proposed swimming pool/ice rink facility.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT
COLLINS:
Section 1. That the Council hereby authorizes the expenditure of such
funds and staff time as may be reasonable and prudent to accomplish the
dissemination of objective and factual information regarding the proposed
ordinance to increase sales and use tax on all items except food by twenty-
five hundredths percent ( .25%) for the purpose of obtaining funds to
construct a swimming pool/ice rink facility.
Section 2. The funds will be used:
1. to explain the project in newspapers of general
circulation, including the floor plans and draw-
ings,
2. that the tax will "sunset" or end automatically in
five years,
3. that the tax will not apply to grocery food items,
and
4. that any monies over and above those needed for
construction will go for operation and maintenance.
Passed and adopted at a regular meeting of the Council of the City
of Fort Collins this 21st of February, 1984.
