HomeMy WebLinkAbout1984-034-02/21/1984-AUTHORIZING THE EXPENDITURE OF SUCH FUNDS AS ARE REASONABLE AND PRUDENT TO ACCOMPLISH THE DISSEMINAT RESOLUTION 84- 34 OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS AUTHORIZING THE EXPENDITURE OF SUCH FUNDS AS ARE REASONABLE AND PRUDENT TO ACCOMPLISH THE DISSEMINATION OF INFORMATION RELATIVE TO THE CITY'S PROPOSAL TO INCREASE SALES AND USE TAXES BY TWENTY-FIVE HUNDREDTHS PERCENT ( .25%) FOR CERTAIN CAPITAL IMPROVEMENTS WHEREAS, on February 21 , 1984, the Council of the City of Fort Collins adopted Resolution 84- 33 referring to the voters of the City of Fort Collins an Ordinance w icich would increase the sales and use tax on all items except food by twenty-five hundredths percent ( .25%) ; and and WHEREAS, this issue is one in which the City has official concern; WHEREAS , the City Council of the City of Fort Collins wishes to authorize the expenditure of funds as may be necessary to effectuate the dissemination of information regarding the merits of such tax increase. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS: Section 1 . That the Council hereby authorizes the expenditure of such funds as are reasonable and prudent to accomplish the dissemination of factual and objective information regarding the proposal of the City to increase the sales and use tax by twenty-five hundredths percent ( .25%) on all items except food. Section 2. That such information be limited to paid ads in newspapers of general circulation to explain: 1 . the projects for which the money will be spent, including an analysis of the impact with and without each project, 2. that the tax will "sunset" or end automatically in five years, 3. that the tax will not apply to grocery food items, 4. that the projects are mainly basic projects neces- sary for funding a continued quality city govern- ment, and 5. that the monies collected will not be spent for other items unless all these projects are completed.
