HomeMy WebLinkAbout2003-112-10/21/2003-AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO EXECUTE AN INTERGOVERNMENTAL AGREEMENT WITH THE COLORADO DEPARTMENT OF TRAN RESOLUTION 2003-112 OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO EXECUTE AN INTERGOVERNMENTAL AGREEMENT WITH THE COLORADO DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION FOR THE DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION OF BIKE LANES ON COLLEGE AVENUE (US 287) FROM HARMONY ROAD TO CARPENTER ROAD WHEREAS, the primary route between Fort Collins and Loveland has been identified through the public planning process of the City and the North Front Range Metropolitan Planning Organization as being College Avenue ( US 287) and is a critical link in the local and regional bicycle lane system; and WHEREAS, new commuter bike lane facilities along College Avenue between Harmony Road and Carpenter Road will greatly improve safety and connectivity for local, as well as regional commuter cyclists; and WHEREAS, both the City of Fort Collins Bicycle Program Plan and the North Front Range Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan indicate the need for the construction of said bike lanes along College Avenue from Harmony Road to Carpenter Road; and WHEREAS, the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) Enhancement Grant Program has awarded the City of Fort Collins a grant in the amount of $228,000 to design and construct said bike lanes; and WHEREAS, the Council believes it to be in the best interest of the City that the Mayor execute an intergovernmental agreement with CDOT for the purpose of enhancing bicycle safety and connectivity along College Avenue from Harmony Road to Carpenter Road by the construction of bike lanes on said portion of College Avenue. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS that the Mayor is hereby authorized to execute an intergovernmental agreement between the City and CDOT regarding the design and construction of bike lanes on College Avenue from Harmony Road to Carpenter Road,to be funded by CDOT in the amount of TWO HUNDRED TWENTY EIGHT THOUSAND ($228,000) DOLLARS; and with City matching funds in the amount of FIFTY SEVEN THOUSAND DOLLARS ($57,000).
