HomeMy WebLinkAbout1987-160-11/03/1987-BOUNDARIES DENVER AREA NORTHERN COLORADO RESIST EFFORTS TO EXPAND WATER CONSERVANCY DISTRICT RESOLUTION 87-160 OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS ENCOURAGING THE NORTHERN COLORADO WATER CONSERVANCY DISTRICT TO RESIST EFFORTS TO EXPAND THE DISTRICT BOUNDARIES TO INCLUDE ENTITIES IN THE DENVER METROPOLITAN AREA WHEREAS, the Fort Collins City Council and Water Board have had a longstanding concern about the possibility that the boundaries of the parent Northern Colorado Water Conservancy District (NCWCD) may be expanded to include entities in the Denver metropolitan area; and WHEREAS, the Water Board believes that expansion of the parent district boundaries would increase competition for Colorado-Big Thompson water and reduce the supply available to water users along the northern front range of Colorado; and WHEREAS, the Water Board expressed a desire for Denver area entities to openly discuss their water needs and plans with Fort Collins and others in northern Colorado so as to explore acceptable solutions for all ; and WHEREAS, the Water Board is encouraged that NCWCD has in the past resisted attempts to expand the parent district boundaries to include entities in the Denver metropolitan area; and WHEREAS, the Water Board, on October 16, 1987, passed a motion requesting that the Fort Collins City Council adopt a resolution encouraging NCWCD to continue to resist such efforts to expand the parent District boundaries; and WHEREAS, the City Council supports the position taken by the Water Board in this matter. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS that the Northern Colorado Water Conservancy District be encouraged to continue to resist efforts to expand the parent district boundaries of the Northern Colorado Water Conservancy District to include entities in the Denver metropolitan area. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Denver area entities are encouraged to openly discuss their water needs with northern Colorado water users in order that alternative approaches to securing water supplies can be explored. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Northern Colorado Water Conservancy District.
