OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS
ADOPTING A PUBLIC-PRIVATE COOPERATION STATEMENT
WHEREAS, local government exists to serve the needs of 9 its citizens
including its business community; and
WHEREAS, the City of Fort Collins recognizes that citizens expect that
services be provided in the most cost effective and efficient manner possible;
and
WHEREAS, it is important to preserve the flexibility needed by locally
elected officials to determine how to best meet the needs of their citizens; and
WHEREAS, the City of Fort Collins believes the entire community benefits
from the overall economic health of its business community; and
WHEREAS, the Cityof Fort Collins spends p between fifty and sixty percent
of its budget on outside contracts for goods and services, providing the citizens
of Fort Collins good-quality, cost-efficient services.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS,
as follows:
Section 1 . That the Council supports the provision of services through
private enterprise when in the public good.
Section 2. That the Council further supports local control of the awarding
of contracts and the accountability of local officials for those actions, and
opposes any state mandates that would increase the complexity and cost of service
without improving those services.
Section 3. That the cost of providing any new service and its impact on
businesses and the economy should be analyzed on a case-by-case basis.
Section 4. That the City shouTd continue to explore ways to work and
communicate with local businesses and to remain sensitive to their needs.
