HomeMy WebLinkAbout2002-008-01/15/2002-AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO EXECUTE AN INTERGOVERNMENTAL AGREEMENT WITH THE COLORADO DEPARTMENT OF TRAN RESOLUTION 2002-008 OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO EXECUTE AN INTERGOVERNMENTAL AGREEMENT WITH THE COLORADO DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION REGARDING THE INSTALLATION OF A FIBER OPTIC COMMUNICATION SYSTEM FOR THE NEW TRAFFIC SIGNAL SYSTEM WHEREAS, it has been recognized by the City Council that the existing traffic signal system is antiquated and unreliable; and WHEREAS, one of the most unreliable aspects of the existing system is the current leased phone line communication system; and WHEREAS, the City Council has appropriated $5,000,000 towards replacing the entire traffic signal system, including the communication system; and WHEREAS, the Federal Highway Administration, through the Colorado Department of Transportation, has awarded an Intelligent Transportation System grant to the City of Fort Collins in the amount of $992,018 to assist in the installation of a fiber optic communication system for the City's traffic signal system; and WHEREAS, the Traffic Operations Department has determined that the most reliable means of communication for the traffic signal system will be fiber optics; and WHEREAS, it is in the City's best interest to use these funds as a dedicated source of revenue for the installation of a fiber optic communication system. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS that the Mayor is hereby authorized to execute an intergovernmental agreement between the City and CDOT for the purpose of providing financial assistance to the City in the sum of$992,018, to help defray one-half of the cost of the installation of a portion of the fiber optic communication system for the new traffic signal system, which cost is estimated to be$1,984,036.
