OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS
AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO EXECUTE AN INTERGOVERNMENTAL
AGREEMENT WITH THE COLORADO DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION
TO RECEIVE FUNDING FOR THE HARMONY ROAD AND UNION PACIFIC
MAINTENANCE PROJECT .
WHEREAS, Phase One of the Harmony Road Maintenance Project is currently under
construction and will provide congestion relief and rehabilitate the pavement on East Harmony Road
from College Avenue to Timberline Road; and
WHEREAS, Phase Two of the Harmony Road Maintenance Project consists of safety
improvements and signal maintenance at the Harmony Road/ Union Pacific Railroad crossing in
order to accommodate a six-lane roadway including bike lanes and sidewalks; and
WHEREAS, improvements to the Harmony Road/Union Pacific Railroad crossing is an
integral element of the Master Street Plan as it relates to the Harmony Road Corridor in order to
accommodate six lanes of travel on Harmony Road and, accordingly, eliminate the "bottleneck"
which presently exists at that location; and
WHEREAS, funding for the project has been made available from project savings in the
previously appropriated Harmony Maintenance Fund in the amount of$225,000 and from a grant
from the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) in the amount of$350,000 which, when
aggregated together, will totally fund the cost of the project; and r
WHEREAS, significant public outreach has been conducted by City staff regarding the
project with favorable input; and
WHEREAS,the City Council has determined that the Harmony Road/Union Pacific Railroad
Safety and Maintenance Project is in the best interests of the City.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT
COLLINS that the Mayor is hereby authorized to execute an intergovernmental agreement with
CDOT to received grant funding in the amount of$350,000 for the partial funding of the Harmony
Road/Union Pacific Maintenance Project, the total cost of which is $575,000.
Passed and adopted at a regular meeting of the Council of the City of Fort Collins this 21 st
day of August, A.D. 2012.
