HomeMy WebLinkAbout2013-006-02/05/2013-ACKNOWLEDGING COUNCILMEMBER LISA POPPAW'S RESIGNATION FROM THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF BEET STREET AND RESOLUTION 2013-006 OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS ACKNOWLEDGING COUNCILMEMBER LISA POPPAW'S RESIGNATION FROM THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF BEET STREET AND WITHDRAWING ANY FURTHER CITY REPRESENTATION ON THE BOARD WHEREAS, in 2007 the Downtown Development Authority (DDA) formed a private, nonprofit organization called "Beet Street" to foster the performing arts, local culture and participative sciences community, and promote intellectual, cultural, physical and spiritual rejuvenation and growth in downtown Fort Collins; and WHEREAS, the initial board of directors of Beet Street(the`Board")was composed of the members of the board of directors of the DDA; and WHEREAS, in addition, the Board elected Councilmember Lisa Poppaw as an additional member of the Board on May 1, 2008; and WHEREAS, on May 6, 2008, the City Council adopted Resolution 2008-043 appointing Councilmember Lisa Poppaw to serve as a representative of the City on the Board, in order to ensure that her service on the Board would be within the scope of her employment as a Councilmember and in furtherance of her official duties for the City; and WHEREAS, Beet Street is now well established as an independent organization with directors from a variety of backgrounds; and WHEREAS, the Board's Bylaws permit a director to resign at any time by giving written notice to Beet Street; and WHEREAS,Councilmember Poppaw has resigned from the Board and believes that it is no longer necessary for the City to have an official representative on the Board; and WHEREAS,the City Council agrees with Councilmember Poppaw and wishes to withdraw any further City representation on the Board. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS that the City Council commends Councilmember Lisa Poppaw for her service on the Board of Beet Street, acknowledges her resignation from the Board, and determines that no further City representation on the Board is necessary.
