OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS
AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO EXECUTE AN INTERGOVERNMENTAL
AGREEMENT WITH THE COLORADO DEPARTMENT OF
TRANSPORTATION FOR THE PURPOSE OF RECEIVING FUNDING
FOR THE TIMBERLINE ROAD/HORSETOOTH ROAD INTERSECTION
IMPROVEMENTS PROJECT
WHEREAS, in 2011, City staff completed an arterial intersection prioritization study that
listed the Timberline Road/Horsetooth Road intersection as one of the locations most in need of
safety and operational improvements; and
WHEREAS, the City has received a federally funded grant through the North Front Range
Metropolitan Planning Organization under the category of"Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality"
(CMAQ) for operational and safety improvements at the Timberline Road/Horsetooth Road
intersection (the "Project"), which grant is in the amount of$391,001; and
WHEREAS, the City has available to it from the Building on Basics Intersection Fund an
existing appropriation that may be used for matching funds in the amount of$81,279 to secure the
CMAQ grant, for a total Project cost of$472,280; and
WHEREAS, the City Council has determined that the construction of the Project is in the
best interests of the City because it will improve safety and overall efficiency for vehicles,bicycles
and pedestrians and will also reduce the accident rate at the intersection and improve air quality by
reducing vehicle wait times.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT
COLLINS that the Mayor is hereby authorized to execute an intergovernmental agreement with the
Colorado Department of Transportation to receive funding forthe Timberline Road/Horsetooth Road
intersection improvements project in the form of a CMAQ grant in the amount of$391,001 upon the
condition that the City provide matching funds in the amount of$81,279 for a total project cost of
$472,280.
Passed and adopted at a regular meeting of the Council of the City of Fort Collins this 5th
day of February, A.D. 2013.
