OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS
ACCEPTING THE PROPOSED DONATION OF THE
DOWNTOWN DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY AND LISA CAMERON
ART IN ACTION SCULPTURE
WHEREAS, in the summer of 2009, the Downtown Development Authority (DDA),
sponsored the Art in Action project(the"Project")in partnership with the City's Art in Public Places
(APP) program; and
WHEREAS,as part of the Project,the DDA commissioned the artist Lisa Cameron to create
a painted mural project on five steel panels (the "Artwork"), while demonstrating her creative
process to the public in Old Town Square; and
WHEREAS,installation of the Artwork was placed on hold while the DDA sought a suitable
permanent location for its display; and
WHEREAS, the DDA is proposing to place the Artwork on City-owned property spanning
the garden and sidewalk area on the west side of the Remington Street Parking Garage, outside the
Poudre Fire Authority offices; and
WHEREAS,to accommodate this objective,the DDA and Ms. Cameron wish to donate the
Artwork to the City; and
WHEREAS, the value of the Artwork is estimated at $45,000; and
WHEREAS,as part of the donation,the DDA will also spend$30,000 to install the Artwork
and will maintain the Artwork in perpetuity; and
WHEREAS, Section 23-309 of the City Code states that works of art with a value of$300
or more donated to the City to be placed in a public area may be accepted only with approval of the
Art in Public Places Board (the "APP Board"), and all such works with a value of$10,000 or more
may be accepted only with approval of the City Council, upon review of the proposed donation and
the recommendation of the APP Board; and
WHEREAS, at its regular meeting on January 16, 2013, the APP Board evaluated the
proposed donation of the Artwork based on the City's Art in Public Places Guidelines and
recommended that the City Council accept the donation.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT
COLLINS, that the City Council hereby accepts the proposed donation of the painted mural panels
created by artist Lisa Cameron as part of the 2009 Art in Action Project.
Passed and adopted at a regular meeting of the Council of the City of Fort Collins this 5th
day of March A.D. 2013.
