OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS SETTING
FORTH THE POLICY OF THE CITY REGARDING MUNICIPAL
SWIMMING FACILITIES
WHEREAS the City Council has in the past on many occasions
considered the matter of municipal swimming facilities and
WHEREAS the City Council has heretofore appointed committees
to investigate and advise on the need for swimming facilities and has
received reports from such committees and
WHEREAS the City Council is of the opinion that the City
should provide swimming facilities for the citizens of the City and
WHEREAS the City of Fort Collins has heretofore constructed
and maintained for the public an outdoor swimming pool located at
Sheldon Lake in City Park and
WHEREAS because of the growth of the City and because of the
increase in recreation time available to many members of the community
the existing facilities in the City are becoming incapable of serving
the needs of the community and
WHEREAS there have been indications from other groups including
Poudre School District No R 1 of a desire to investigate the possibility
of a combined effort to provide swimming facilities in this area and
WHEREAS it appears that such a joint undertaking might be
feasible and such a joint undertaking could reduce costs to the bodies
involved by virtue of eliminating duplication of efforts and funds and
WHEREAS in the opinion of the City Council it is desirable
that the City of Fort Collins set forth its policy regarding future
swimming facilities for the community
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
FORT COLLINS
1 That the City Council recognizes that a need now exists
and that such need will increase for additional public swimming facile
ties within the City including an indoor swimming facility and the

City of Fort Collins recognizes its obligation to provide such additional
facilities for the community
2 The City Council recognizes that any such facilities will
be of benefit not only to the City and its citizens but also to the
entire metropolitan area around the City and the City Council further
recognizes that other public bodies in the community have an interest in
and a need for swimming facilities and the City Council hereby expresses
its interest in investigating the possibility of jointly constructing and
operating community swimming facilities with other groups having a need
for the same in this area
3 The City Council invites other groups having an interest in
swimming facilities to join with the City of Fort Collins in investigating
the desirability of and the priority for jointly providing such facilities
Passed and adopted at a regular meeting of the City Council held
this 18th day of March A D 1971
