DIRECTING STAFF TO RESEARCH AND DEVEL
SALES TAX ON SELECTED SERVICES
WHEREAS, the City Council recognizes that the Ciles tax
on groceries places a burden on food buyers and asressive,
and
WHEREAS, Council would like to refine the equitying system
by eliminating the taxation on food, and
WHEREAS, the City Council notes that such a safood com-
prises a sigmficant portion of the City' s sales tond should
not be reduced until alternative revenue sources an be identified and
implemented
WHEREAS, a substitution tax would be a re rm that would satisfy both
concerns
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY E COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT
COLLINS, COLORADO
Section 1 That the Council eclares its support of the need for
identifying alternative revenue sou es which could allow the reduction, or
elimination, of the City' s presen sales tax on groceries
Section 2 That the C ncil directs City staff to research and
develop a Sales Tax to be plied to selected services with the intention
of reducing or eliminate the City's present sales tax on groceries
Section 3 That a staff seek the input, advice and recommendation
of the community in d elopment of the sales tax on services
Section 4 at City staff will present its conclusions and recom-
mendations to Co cil for its review by April 1, 1984
