OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS
ADOPTING THE CULTURAL PLAN
INCLUDING THE CULTURAL FACILITIES PLAN
WHEREAS, in 2005 Cultural Services staff began creating a Cultural Plan; and
WHEREAS, the purpose of the Cultural Plan is to guide the work of the Cultural Services
Department and to define strategies appropriate for other non-City groups and organizations to
pursue, with the goal of supporting quality of life and economic development in Fort Collins by
promoting, supporting, funding and sustaining the arts, culture and science in the community; and
WHEREAS, included in the Cultural Plan is the Cultural Facilities Plan, which makes
recommendations regarding facility improvements; and
WHEREAS, development of the Cultural Plan involved surveys, extensive outreach
activities,and cooperation with several City boards and community groups,including organizations
and citizens involved in the arts, culture and science; and
WHEREAS, the draft Cultural Plan was presented to the City Council at work sessions in
August 2007 and May 2008, and was modified and updated to reflect Council's comments and
concerns; and
WHEREAS,the Cultural Resources Board voted to recommend adoption ofthe Cultural Plan
at its meeting on July 31, 2008; and
WHEREAS, adoption of the Cultural Plan does not bind the Council to any specific
recommendation,and recommendations that would require further Council action,such as funding
requests,intergovernmental agreements,or the conveyance of real property,would be brought to the
Council for consideration by ordinance or resolution as appropriate; and
WHEREAS, the Council has considered the Cultural Plan and believes that its adoption is
in the best interests of the City.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT
COLLINS that the Cultural Plan dated August 2008, a copy of which is on file in the office of the
City Clerk, is hereby approved for the purpose of guiding the work of the Cultural Services
Department and for community-wide efforts in promoting the arts, culture and science in the Fort
Collins community.
