OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS
ESTABLISHING GUIDELINES FOR UNDERTAKING MEASURES
TO HELP CONTROL THE WEST NILE VIRUS
WHEREAS, West Nile Virus poses a significant health risk to the citizens of Fort Collins;
and
WHEREAS, the City recognizes the Larimer County Board of Health (`Board of Health")
as the leading local authority in evaluating public health risks; and
WHEREAS, the Board of Health has concluded that the public health risks of West Nile
Virus are orders of magnitude greater than those posed by the use of adulticides; and
WHEREAS, Board of Health has recommended the spraying of adulticides in the City, as
needed, to help control the spread of West Nile virus by adult mosquitos; and
WHEREAS, the Board of Health has defined trigger criteria for indicating when the use of
adulticides are necessary and advisable to prevent human infections of West Nile Virus; and
WHEREAS,the City wishes to provide appropriate general public notification of adulticiding
activities and to exempt limited sensitive populations and locations from adulticide applications.
NOW,THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT
COLLINS that the City Council adopts the recommended adulticiding trigger criteria for use in the
City's West Nile Virus response plan and directs staff to administer an adulticides program that will
include general public notification, limited exemptions for sensitive individuals and locations, and
other appropriate notification methods.
