HomeMy WebLinkAbout2003-036-03/25/2003-URGING THE REGISTERED ELECTORS OF THE CITY TO VOTE IN FAVOR OF TWO PROPOSED TAX MEASURES FOR TRANSPO RESOLUTION 2003-036 OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS URGING THE REGISTERED ELECTORS OF THE CITY TO VOTE IN FAVOR OF TWO PROPOSED TAX MEASURES FOR TRANSPORTATION CAPITAL IMPROVEMENTS AT THE APRIL 8, 2003, MUNICIPAL ELECTION WHEREAS, on February 18, 2003, the City Council placed two tax measures on the April 8, 2003, municipal election ballot through the adoption of Resolution 2003-026; and WHEREAS,the first of these measures is a proposed increase in the City's sales and use tax rate of 0.25%, exempting groceries and prescription drugs; and WHEREAS, the second such measure is a proposed 1% tax on the issuance of building permits for all construction activity in the City,excluding qualified affordable housing projects and projects that do not add additional dwelling units to residential buildings or add square footage to commercial or industrial buildings; and WHEREAS,both proposed taxes are part of a long-term funding strategy designed to provide additional revenues to pay for much-needed transportation capital improvements, as identified on the City's 20-Year Master Transportation Plan; and WHEREAS,the City Council believes that voter approval of both proposed taxes is critically important if the City is to effectively address its long-term transportation needs. NOW,THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS that the City Council hereby supports and endorses both of the above-referenced tax measures,and strongly urges the electors of the City of Fort Collins to approve such measures at the April 8, 2003, municipal election.
