HomeMy WebLinkAbout2005-099-09/06/2005-RECOGNIZING AND ENCOURAGING LOCAL SUPPORT FOR VICTIMS OF HURRICANE KATRINA RESOLUTION 2005-099 OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS RECOGNIZING AND ENCOURAGING LOCAL SUPPORT FOR VICTIMS OF HURRICANE KATRINA WHEREAS, on Monday, August 29,2005 a massive hurricane and resulting flooding pummeled the Gulf Coast states of Louisiana,Mississippi,and Alabama causing massive destruction and the loss of many lives; and WHEREAS, immediate reports of the aftermath of this natural disaster called individuals and communities from around the world to provide support and aid to these areas in need; and WHEREAS, the residents of Fort Collins have consistently been known for their generosity and have responded to the Gulf Coast disaster by donating money and supplies to local organizations; and WHEREAS, donations made through September 17, 2005 to the United Way of Larimer County and the Community Foundation of Northern Colorado will be matched dollar for dollar,without limit,by Pat Stryker and the Bohemian Foundation. WHEREAS,the City of Fort Collins has responded to the need for disaster assistance by partnering with local businesses to provide up to ten police vehicles to the communities affected by Hurricane Katrina; and WHEREAS,the City of Fort Collins has received requests for assistance from various emergency management organizations and will be evaluating our ability to respond with equipment and personnel; and WHEREAS, the City of Fort Collins will continue to investigate other avenues to assist the relief efforts which will continue throughout the coming weeks and months to help these communities recover from the loss of lives and the destruction left behind. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS that the City of Fort Collins is committed to assist the victims of Hurricane Katrina by dispatching employees and equipment to aid in the rescue and recovery efforts in the Gulf Coast region and encourages citizens to financially contribute to on-going relief efforts.
