OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY FORT COLLINS
ESTABLISHING A POLICY ON THE DISTRIBUTION
OF INFORMATION TO COUNCIL
WHEREAS, the Fort Collins City Council desires to maintain a general policy
of providing public access to information received by the Council ; and
WHEREAS, on October 15, 1991, the Council adopted a policy which
established specific categories for information which is disseminated to the
Council and identified the kinds of documents which should be placed in each
category; and
WHEREAS, the Council considers it desirable to amend that policy by
eliminating the category of "Non-Public Information. "
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS
that Resolution 91-136 is hereby amended and the following categories will be
hereafter used in providing information to the City Council :
1 . No classification - generally, all memos to Council and
correspondence to and from citizens that are not designated as
"confidential " will be promptly made available to the public by
placing copies of such memos and correspondence in a public
inspection basket in the City Manager's office.
2. Confidential - information falling into this category will be kept
confidential . Such information would include: memos from the City
Attorney's Office and outside counsel providing legal advice; the
contents of employees' personnel files (except applications and
performance ratings) ; trade secrets; confidential commercial and
financial data; and any other information required or permitted by
law to be kept confidential .
Passed and adopted at a regular meeting of the Council of the City of Fort
Collins held this 21st day of January, A.D. 1992.
