OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS
SUPPORTING THE PASSAGE OF THE CITIZEN-INITIATED
ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING THE IMPOSITION OF AN
ADDITIONAL QUARTER-CENT SALES AND USE
TAX FOR NATURAL AREAS
WHEREAS, pursuant to the provisions of the City Charter, certain citizens of
the City have initiated an ordinance which, if adopted, would result in the
imposition of a one-time sales and use tax to be levied for a five-year period,
beginning January 1, 1993, and ending December 31, 1997 ("the Natural Areas Sales
Tax Ordinance") , the proceeds of which tax would be used to fund the acquisition,
construction, enhancement and maintenance of trail systems, wildlife habitat and
other natural areas of benefit to the citizens of the City; and
WHEREAS, the Council has referred the Natural Areas Sales Tax Ordinance to
the electorate for their consideration at a special City election to be held in
conjunction with the general election on November 3, 1992; and
WHEREAS, the City's Parks and Recreation Board and Natural Resources Advisory
Board have both recommended that the City Council take a position of advocacy in
support of the Natural Areas Sales Tax Ordinance; and
WHEREAS, the City Council believes that the passage of the Natural Areas
Sales Tax Ordinance would be in the best interests of the citizens of the City
and would offer a viable and appropriate means of funding the acquisition of open
space, trails and natural areas in accordance with the Parks and Recreation
Master Plan and the Natural Areas Policy Plan previously adopted by the Council .
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS
that the City Council hereby supports the passage of the proposed sales tax for
natural areas as described above and urges the citizens of the City to vote in
favor of adoption of the Natural Areas Sales Tax Ordinance.
Passed and adopted at a regular meeting of the Council of the City of Fort
Collins held this 20th day of October, A.D. 1992.
