OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS
CREATING A COMMISSION ON THE STATUS OF WOMEN
WHEREAS, the City Council desires increased citizen input in dealing
with issues which affect the status of women in Fort Collins ; and
WHEREAS, the City Council desires to create a Commission on the Status of
Women and set forth the composition and responsibilities of this
commission.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT
COLLINS that:
Section 1. An advisory commission designated as the Commission on the
Status of Women is hereby created for the purpose of enhancing the status
of, and opportunities for all women in Fort Collins. To that end, the
Commission shall have the ability to:
A) document issues of importance to the status of women in Fort
Collins.
B) review legislation which may affect women in the community.
C) conduct educational programs in the Fort Collins community to
increase public awareness and sensitivity to the needs and
capabilities of all women.
D) cooperate with other organizations and individuals interested in
issues affecting women in the Fort Collins area.
E) recommend legislation, policy changes , and other actions which
would enhance the status of women in Fort Collins to the City
Council , City Manager, and to other public and private
organizations upon request.
Section 2. The Commission shall be composed of seven (7) regular
members and two (2) alternate members appointed by the City Council to
serve without monetary composition. The regular members of the Commission
shall serve for four (4) years or until their successors are appointed.
The alternate members shall serve for two (2) years or until their
successors are appointed. The initial appointments to the Commission shall
specify the term of office of each individual in order to achieve
overlapping tenure. All members shall be subject to removal by the
Council . Residency in the urban growth area is required. In the event
that a vacancy occurs on the Commission , the same shall be filled by the
City Council for the remaining unexpired portion of the term. Regular
members shall have the voting privilege as specified in the by-laws of the
Commission. Alternate members shall have the voting privilege only when
serving in the absence of a regular member.
Larimer County will be encouraged to choose a representative to serve as an
ex officio of the Commission.
Section 3. The Commission shall choose annually from the membership a
Chairperson, Vice Chairperson, Secretary, and such other officers as may be
required, whose duties shall be such as may be prescribed by the by-laws to
be adopted by the Commission. The by-laws shall not be inconsistent with
the Charter and Ordinances of the City of Fort Collins. A copy of the
by-laws shall be filed with the City Clerk for the use of the City Council
immediately after adoption by the Commission, and the same shall be subject
to the approval of the City Council .
Passed and adopted at a regular meeting of the Council of the City of
Fort Collins this 1st day of April , A.D. 1986.
