HomeMy WebLinkAbout1986-029-03/04/1986-TABLED INDEFINITELY RESOLUTION 86- 29 OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS SUPPORTING THE PASSAGE OF HOUSE BILL 1267 REGARDING THE PURCHASE OF PHANTOM CANYON FOR USE AS A STATE PARK WHEREAS, the General Assembly of the State of Colorado is considering House Bill 1267 regarding the purchase of Phantom Canyon for use as a State park; and WHEREAS, the acquisition of this area would provide a wide range of recreational opportunities including fishing, hunting, camping, horseback riding, hiking and boating; and WHEREAS, designation of the area as a State park would preserve and protect wildlife habitat, consolidate the deer range and protect the river system; and WHEREAS, the development of a State park in this area will serve the future recreational needs of the rapidly growing population of Northern Colorado; and WHEREAS, the cost of acquisition of the property will be paid from revenues generated by the Colorado State Lottery and revenues pledged to be raised by Governor Lamm; and WHEREAS, operations and maintenance costs for the park will be paid for primarily by fees generated by the park; and WHEREAS, acquisition of Phantom Canyon as a State park will prevent development of the land for residential or commercial purposes; and WHEREAS, the residents of Fort Collins will benefit from the purchase of Phantom Canyon and its development as a State park by the addition of a prime recreational area near Fort Collins, from the increase in visitors to the area and from construction activity generated by the park's development; and WHEREAS, the Fort Collins Parks and Recreation Board is formally supporting the proposed Phantom Canyon State Park. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS that the General Assembly of the State of Colorado be, and it hereby is, requested to support the passage of House Bill 1267 and the acquisition of Phantom Canyon for development as a State park.
