OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS
AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO APPROVE A CHANGE ORDER
TO INCREASE THE AMOUNT OF PLANT SEAL MIX WORK
IN THE LOCAL STREET MAINTENANCE CONTRACT
WHEREAS, in 1984 many streets in the City of Fort Collins were
repaired by a chip seal resurfacing; and
WHEREAS, residents on the chip sealed streets have complained that the
resulting street surface is rough and contains loose gravel and dust which
pollutes the surrounding areas; and
WHEREAS, several different types of treatments have been applied over
the chip seal in an attempt to provide a surface that would be more
acceptable; and
WHEREAS, the only treatments that appear to be acceptable solutions
are a plant mix seal or an overlay; and
WHEREAS, the plant seal mix is determined to be the best solution
because it is less costly than an overlay and it provides a smooth surface
comparable to a new street; and
WHEREAS, it is necessary to provide a change order in the maximum
amount of Ninety Thousand Dollars ($90,000. ) to Sterling Paving as the
contractor awarded the 1985 Local Street Maintenance Contract in order to
begin covering all the chip sealed streets; and
WHEREAS, the Capital Project Management Control System requires all
change orders in excess of Fifty Thousand Dollars ($50,000.) to be approved
by City Council .
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT
COLLINS that the City Manager be, and he hereby is, authorized to approve a
change order with a maximum amount of Ninety Thousand Dollars ($90,000. ) to
Sterling Paving for an increase in the amount of plant mix seal work in the
1985 Local Street Maintenance Contract.
